The Goal:

The goal of this project was to design a user interface for a mobile app that will help improve my experience with making a task that I currently struggle with easier.

Documenting Task:

The task that I was struggling with at the time as balancing the different aspects of my life. I was finding it difficult to balance my university life, work life, and social life. Throughout the week I realised that I was either working too much or that I did not have anytime to work on university assignments or spend time for myself.

Therefore what my task required from me was to properly dedicate and organise my time for different events in a way that works best for me as different users will have a different viewpoint on what they considered to be a balanced lifestyle.

Mindmap:

A mindmap was created based off the word: balance.

Wireframe:

A wireframe was drawn to showcase different pages and their navigation. The pages were explained and detailed with their different navigation pathways displayed.

Prototyping:

A low-fidelity prototype was created in order to conduct user testing.

Testing:

The testing scenario given to users is as follows:

You are currently looking at your schedule for the upcoming week. You remember that you need to make some time to plan a date for your mum’s birthday party. However you want to properly balance your work life, family life and uni life. This includes to add a reminder to make time for yourself.

Experience Map:

Interviews were conducted to determine how different users keep their lives balanced. Through the interviews, an experience map was created in Miro representing positive and negatives feelings users had during their week.

Prototype:

An updated prototype was created utilising Figma. Changes and iterations were implemented from user testing results and interviews.

Testing:

A second prototype testing was completed with the Figma mid-fidelity prototype. The scenario given to the participant is as follows:

After signing up for the new app, you remember that there are a few thing you need to do:

  • There is an opportunity for you to take an extra shift at work on Sunday from 5pm to 10pm, so you want to check your weekly schedule.

  • You need to add some time throughout the week to work on your university assignment.

  • You also need to make a task to purchase a gift for your mother.

However you want to properly balance your work life, family life, and university life throughout the week.

High-fidelity Prototype:

A high-fidelity prototype was created based on the results of the user testing shown before.

A few changes were made on the home page. Originally the page had a carousel to feature all the information at the bottom. However that made it difficult for users to see important information. In order to change that, I implemented a navigation bar at the bottom making it easier for users to view their information. It also shows users all the different kinds of information that is avaliable to the users at once.
